What is this?

ScreenMime.com is an app designed to help you keep all video guides/demos updated. You create a workflow that is followed by a bot. All the actions are also recorded and saved in the video. You can also add a voice generated from the text.

How it works?

1. Add s-mime attributes in your web app code.

2. Create a workflow

Go to the page app.screenmime.com/workflows and click Create new workflow. You can take a look at the workflow below for a reference.

  1. Navigate to Page - this step makes the bot go to the specified page.
  2. Start recording - the video recording will start from this step. Any step before this one will not appear in the video.
  3. Interact with Element - in this step the bot will search the page for the element with attribute s-mime=”my-app-button”. And then perform the specified action on this element. In this case - Click. If the element is in the iframe, check the checkbox and provide another s-mime attribute for the iframe element.
  4. Stop recording - the video recording will stop on this step. Anything after this step, will not appear in the video.

3. Share the new video

Go to the page app.screenmime.com/videos and scroll to your workflow. You can see a list of recorded videos there with the dates. Toggle the newest video. If you want to preview it before sharing, click the button on the right to download it.

Each workflow has its link for the shared video. You can see it just under the workflow name.

FAQ

Recording stuff that requires authentication

General advice in for cases like that is to make ScreenMime follow the same steps as you would do to authenticate.

You can make it fill login and password field, and start recording after it logged in. If you use magic links to login, see the section below.

If you app requires 2FA, you can confirm the login each time you run ScreenMime video recording or you can setup a separate development environment which have some security protections disabled.

Magic link login

If your site requires you to login using magic links, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the password on your local machine.
  2. Copy the login link you received in your email inbox.
